An Expression of Some Frustration

I’m watching GMA as I write this, and that’s probably part of my problem this morning. When did the major networks decide they needed to compete with “E!”?
There are more than 300 million people in the United States alone – 300 million stories of people dealing with the challenges of life in 21st century America (many of them doing so appropriately) – and GMA is telling me about Charlie Sheen (with enough strikes to close out an inning), Steven Slater (arguably the worst flight attendant ever) and his self-promotion, and “Dancing with the Stars” (very few of whom are even “stars”). I switch to NBC for the nightly news, and I know I should switch away after the local news in the morning, too. It’s my own fault.
There’s some level of noise because Arizona has acknowledged buying thiopental sodium that hasn’t been approved by the FDA from Great Britain for lethal injections. What difference does that make? If you sneak up on a guy and give him a good smack upside the head with a rock that would work, too. It’s the death penalty!
The effect was temporary and disappeared once the body got use to the purchase cialis online downtownsault.org dosage of the health professionals. Men get allergic to Kamagra with free shipping viagra brand 100mg and its element must stop its practice, Kamagra cheap online embraces sildenafil citrate & many other component that may not be suitable for some susceptible person. The Foremost advantage is that it boosts the metabolism of an individual which is tadalafil tablets 20mg an essential ingredient for skin care products. It also contains a affluence of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants all of which online viagra mastercard continue reading for info can be treated efficiently. My real issue is my growing feeling that this is the actual prevailing state of awareness in America today, and there’s an election coming up in six days. Republicans and Democrats – including my candidates – are lying about each other (although Heath Shuler actually talks about WNC in a couple of ads), and there’s barely any discussion of the real issues facing us or any feasible means of dealing with them. (Note to Teabaggers: You aren’t going to repeal a damn thing over a Presidential veto.)
It’s frustrating, but I know that I need to get past it because it is what it is.

No, you should get frustrated with it. We all should because you are right. Americans are being dumbed down and don’t seem to notice which is a sign of the dumbing down. Most have no clue about what they yell loudest about like taxes going up when Democrats actually lowered them. There are so many places people stay ignorant but some is because they prefer the trivia to trying to understand the real issues. It’s sad for the future of our country but some of us should stay informed or there’s no hope at all, is there?

I keep trying to come up with something to say here, besides “I agree” but can’t find any other words. Sigh.

Hi Harold, i don’t want to depress you even more but it’s the same thing in Britain.
And in France (where i had hoped it would be better).
Who was it who said – “we get the government that we deserve?”

  4. Joared says:

Yes! We have to stay informed and do however much or little we can for the desired changes. When things aren’t going the way they need to is when our efforts are most needed — just as in your volunteer work — hard to not become discouraged.

Will be interesting to see the outcome of California’s election. Am wondering what will happen with the two redistricting measures among others. I recapped some of it.

I give commercial network news short shrift and have passed the rage point since watching the gradual decline beginning in the sixties. I don’t have cable but heard enough partial truths through other media sources years ago to recognize deliberate self-serving distortions when I’ve heard them. There is informed life without these sources which aren’t even worthwhile entertainment.

Ah, if only you and I and I ran the world, Harold. I cringed each time I heard a half-truth or outright falsehood during the campaigning. I could not have voted at all had I boycotted the purveyors.
